Opals

Opals, recognized for their iridescent rainbow colors, are semi-precious gemstones. Due to their softness, they can be easily damaged without proper care.

What to know about wearing opal jewellery

To maintain your opal jewellery, it's crucial to keep it away from water to prevent cracking. Opals are highly porous, so water contact can temporarily alter their colour. It's also important to avoid exposing them to liquids such as perfumes, soaps, cleaning agents, lotions, cosmetics, and excessive sweat. If your opal does get wet, pat it dry with a soft microfiber cloth and allow it to air dry for 24 hours. The absorbed water will evaporate naturally, and the stone's vibrant play of colour should return without any cracking. Additionally, protect opals from drastic temperature shifts to prevent fractures and take them off before engaging in manual tasks to prevent chipping.

How to store opal jewellery

Keep your opal jewellery in a dry location at room temperature, such as a jewellery care box, to prevent exposure to moisture.

How to clean opal jewellery

Avoid using steam cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, or any liquids on opals. If they require cleaning, gently polish them with a soft microfiber cloth. However, ultrasonic cleaners are suitable for cleaning silver jewellery.

Enamel

Enamelling is a process where a glossy material, usually a form of glass, is bonded to metal or another durable surface through the application of very high heat. Our variety, known as cold enamel, results in a more resilient piece of jewellery.

What to know about wearing enamel jewellery

Although enamel is more resistant to chipping, it's not immune to damage. It's important to handle your enamel jewellery carefully.

Pearls

Our freshwater pearls are carefully selected from freshwater mussels.

Stainless Steel

All Nala Kendrick jewellery is meticulously crafted to maintain its lustre for the longest time possible. Nonetheless, like all fine jewellery, certain practices can help preserve your pieces.

Periodically polish your jewellery with a soft, lint-free cloth to keep it gleaming. For optimal care, store your NK items in a dark, cool, and dry environment within an airtight container to minimize scratching and tangling.

Avoid exposing your jewellery to perfumes, lotions, or acidic substances, as these can cause the plating to diminish over time. While our plated jewellery is waterproof and resistant to tarnishing, we recommend removing it when in water and steering clear of extreme temperatures. It's normal for plated jewellery to gradually lose its plating; however, this is not a defect and can be prevented by following the care instructions provided above.

Allergic Reactions

Nala Kendrick jewellery is made from high-quality materials, including sterling silver and 18/14k gold. Although all jewellery may contain trace amounts of nickel, which can cause allergic reactions in certain people, the levels in Nala Kendrick jewellery are minimal and usually only affect those with a severe sensitivity.
